The Kogarasumaru is the grandfather of the Katana. The sword style first came into being during the 9th century as an intermediate sword between Chokuto and the Tachi. The sword was double edged with a curve, created for use on horse back.

This is a reproduction of an Edo Style Kogarasumaru.

The Sword Includes: A Wooden Collectors Box, Silk Sword Bag, Cleaning Kit, One Tier Stand, & Certificate of Authenticity.

Attributes of the Weapon:

Blade: The blade of the sword has been constructed in the lost Damascus Steel folding technique. By hand the sword smith painstakingly stacks and forges individual layers of steel. This technique can be easily seen by the unique patterning of the steel on the blade. Traditionally this wood like grain pattern is known as the water mark. The Damascus pattern is very subtle and not treated with any chemicals.

The sword has been crafted into a Kogarasumaru style with a false cutting edge at the top of the blade running about half the length of the blade. A Bo-Hi Ni Tsure-Hi (one wide blood line one narrow bloodline) runs down the sword.

The cutting edge and upper false edge both feature a Hamon. The HRC of the Shinogi is 48 degrees, the Yakiba 56 degrees. The blade comes razor sharp and full tang.

Saya: The scabbard of the sword is wooden with a high gloss black finish. Wrapped around the upper half of the Saya is a black Sage-o with a golden Kurigata. The Koi-Guchi of the Saya is black bull horn.

Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction over a copper Seppa. The Tsuba is copper with a pattern of vines and flowers. An additional Seppa secures the Tsuba to the Tsuka.

Tsuka: The Fuchi of the sword is copper with another pattern of vines and flowers. The Tsuka has a wooden core with a Ray Skin Same wrap. Wrapped over the Same is a black silk Ito. Two bamboo Mekugis secure the tang of the sword into the Tsuka. Two bright copper Menukis are on each side of the Tsuka made in the likeness of flowers. The Kashira is copper with another flower.
