Katanas have been said to be one of the greatest swords ever created. This is ironic since Japan has such poor materials for making swords. The iron of Japan is inferior by most standards and there is a relatively small amount to be found on the island. These factors meant that when a sword was to be made it had to be of the best quality. The sword smiths would labor over the sword and many believed that part of the smiths soul became a part of the sword.
This Katana was hand forged and crafted authentically in all aspects of its creation. All the fittings and parts are genuine material. The balance of the blade is perfect and the sword is completely functional. This is a masterpiece of recreating the ancient Katana.
The Katana includes: A wooden collectors box, Sword Bag, Cleaning Kit, One Tier Sword Stand, and certificate of Authenticity.
Attributes of the Weapon:
Blade: The blade of the sword has been authentically constructed a San'mai lamination. This process occurs when two types of steel are combined together; in this case the core steel and edge are hard steel (Hagane) sandwiched between two pieces of medium steel (Kawagane). This is a painstaking process that requires a master smith. The result of the lamination is a sword with an extremely hard cutting edge, but still flexible.
The curve of the blade has been created as a result of the different steel used on the Ha and Shinogi. When the blade is quenched the sword is covered with a clay solution, except for the edge of the blade. The blade is then heated and quenched in water drawn from the spring of Longquan. Since the Ha cools much more quickly than the rest of the blade the molecules in the steel expand and force the softer steel to fold back. The HRC of the sword is 45 egress on the Shinogi and 58 degrees on the Yakiba.
A Masame grain pattern runs along the blade. The blade features a wide Bo-Hi, low Ridge Line, is full tang, and comes razor sharp.
Saya: The Saya of the sword is a work of art in its own right. A beautiful Japanese scene has been painted across the scabbard with a red back ground and cherry blossoms. A black silk Sage-o has been tied around the wooden and copper Kurigata.
Tsuba: The Habaki is a one piece brass construction. The Tsuba is an iron ring of two guardian lions circling each other. The Tsuba is secured by two copper Seppas.
Tsuka: The Fuchi is iron with another guardian lion. The Tsuka features a wooden core with a ray skin Same. Wrapped over the Same is a black silk Ito. An iron Menuki is found on each side of the Tsuka. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the tang of the sword into the Tsuka. The Kashira features another iron lion in bold relief.
